Jesus

Here are my postings on faith. I believe in Jesus as my Savior, and I have come to that belief through a series of events.  I grew up in the Presbyterian church and experienced Christ in my life through Sunday school, choirs, and good friends made at church.  In junior high, I went to a camp that redefined my idea of what it means to be a Christian.  I dedicated my life to Christ, and tried my best to live out that faith throughout high school.  In college, I was exposed to parts of the Bible I was unfamiliar with, and my relatively rigid ideas about what the Bible was and wasn't were challenged.  I quickly began to war with myself, eventually deciding that there was no God and that I was nothing more than a collection of chemical and electrical impulses. These beliefs led me toward a crisis after I lost my job that took several months to recover from.  At that time, I picked up the Bible and read the verses, "He who seeks to save his life will lose it, but he who loses his life for my sake will gain eternal life."  These verses scared me, but they also challenged me to reassess my ideas.  I began reading the Psalms, and Psalm 1 became a very important touchstone for me -- in poetic form, it explains how God is on the side of good, and wants to see his people prosper, as opposed to the side of evil, which ultimately has no place in this world.  Through involvement in a Christian fellowship on campus as I returned to school, I discovered more about Jesus and his teaching and decided to recommit myself to Him.  I don't profess to have the answers to life's most difficult questions, but faith in Jesus has put me on a path toward understanding and knowing God and seeking to please Him above all else.
