Sunday column / Meet the Press

Frank Rich, an ardent liberal, is taking Hillary to task in the New York Times for fudging her stance on Iran. Here's the link to his column.

Also, I saw Fred Thompson on Meet the Press, who said he was for staying the course in Iraq, in so many words, more or less. That should rule him out for any serious contention for the Presidency, in my opinion, as the war in Iraq needs anything but staying the course.

I agree with much of what Frank Rich has to say, although I'm not sure he has solutions to the problems he addresses -- his role is as a critic of the campaigns, not a problem-solver. Obama has put forward an attempt at problem-solving in Iraq that hasn't gotten a lot of attention yet, but I imagine it will when the campaign really heats up. He's for humanitarian assistance in Iraq, a regional conference including Iran and Syria at the bargaining table, and a gradual drawdown of U.S. troops. He says there are no easy answers at this point, and I'm inclined to agree. Here's the link to his speech.
