The Obama Brand
Politics is like marketing -- not exactly the same, but similar. I wanted to post about Obama's logo a long time ago, but am just now getting around to it. The logo is red, white, and blue, of course. The white part is an image of the sun, rising over a field of red and white stripes. This blank space in the logo is a little troublesome to me. It either indicates a sun that is burning with white-hot intensity or a sun that isn't really there -- a donut hole, so to speak, in the middle of his logo. Hillary Clinton's been driving a big-rig through that hole in the past few weeks, positioning herself clearly to Obama's right and seizing every opportunity to capitalize on an Obama mistake. Obama needs to change the narrative and truly rise above the attack with an offensive argument. He's done a pretty good job of defense, but he needs to say something new to win people over. Maybe it's the argument that he started his campaign with, according to one book I read -- the argument for generational change. Maybe it's another argument, but I think many of the campaign themes that have worked for him in the past will work for him again. He has to reintroduce himself to the American people.
