Obama's Convention Bounce
While I'm certainly no expert, I suspect that McCain's campaign was attempting to create unrealistically high expectations when they said on CNN's Larry King that they expected Obama to get as much as a 15% "bounce" in the polls from the convention last week. With the news this weekend dominated by Sarah Palin (as far as I can tell), and Hurricane Gustav threatening to make even more news this week, it may be hard for the Obama-Biden ticket to generate a big bounce. The coverage I did see of the convention, though, was pretty breathless, with many commentators noting the historic nature of the candidacy and the tremendous speech-making ability of Obama. I think the convention was a big success, but it won't put everyone over the rafters as much as the commentators I watched on PBS -- Al Hunt, I think is his name, in particular. I wish I could find an actual transcript of what he said, but he more or less praised Obama as the next coming of Jesus. Anyway, I think the convention was successful, and Obama did a good job of framing the debate against John McCain. We'll see how the actual debates go in September.
