Execrable Ads as Metaphors

I hate those Capital One ads on TV these days, advertising the "card lab" with inane attention-getting stunts. Still, as a metaphor for our leadership these days, the ads really work. In various disguises, the ads show leaders -- an evil space villain (seen below), a ship captain, a 4-star general -- as completely out-of-touch buffoons ignoring very real crises in favor of lavishly doting on a ridiculous pet project. It just so happens that the pet project is a credit card with a photo of "Mom" on it, or the leader's pet, or so on and so on. Reminds me of McCain in particular, but probably some Congressional leaders, too. I think McCain's pet project is "Joe the Plumber" right now, but he's got plenty of other ones -- getting rid of "earmarks," rehabilitating Sarah Palin's image, running the economy even further into the ground. I'll leave the Congressional parallels up to my loyal reader(s). I'm probably the only one in the universe to see these ads this way, which makes it perfect for a blog post in my mind. Any thoughts?
