'If August Is About Villainization'...Who's Villainizing Who?

This story from the AP looks at the health insurance industry's lobbying effort to curtail the "public option." This story quotes one insurance industry lobbyist as saying the health care debate will be won or lost in August.

This quote from the first story hints at a motivation:

"They've been effective in constraining what the public plan might become," said Len Nichols, who directs health programs for the nonpartisan New America Foundation. Crediting insurers' less contentious strategy, he added, "I don't think they're suddenly nice. I think they've figured out it's in their interests to do this."

The first story also looks at lobbying from a financial standpoint. I also stumbled upon this Center for Responsive Politics website, and it has some good data on health industry lobbying, too.
