Seven Quick Takes

1.  Facebook has lost some of its charm for me -- many people I  know have either quit using it or use it more sparingly --  but it still is an effective means of communication.  I haven't added a friend for a long time, but I was able to connect with a friend who's coming to town soon on it.  That's pretty cool.

2.  Rooting for Tiger Woods in golf is like rooting for the Yankees in baseball.  Still, I'm kinda rooting for the "old guy" to make a run on Sunday and make the young guys work for their victory in the Masters.

3.  Twitter is becoming more interesting to me.  I used it last night, and I was reminded to watch a pretty informative PBS show called "Nevada Week in Review" that probably gets low ratings, but really was interesting.

4.  Blogging is becoming old-fashioned, with competition from twitter and facebook.  Still, I like it.

5.  Social media generally makes us less connected rather than more connected, I'm thinking.  It favors the superficial over the truly intimate experience of being together.

6.  Global warming can indeed cause cooler weather in certain places -- people tend to confuse climate for weather.

7.  Use less gas!  It's past time.

I will always be in favor of "real" time with people over social media - BUT - I do miss seeing into my friends' lives that I'll rarely if ever get that "real" time with - those who live overseas. I still have zero desire to join FB again, but if I ever did, I would only have "friends" that I truly can't connect with any other way.

I also found it to be a bit boring, especially with those that it was great to see where they were at after X number of years, but then...I really wasn't interested in the whole day-to-day thing with them after awhile.

Keep blogging or writing somewhere, even if you're the only one who sees it!
