1st Day of School

Hello again! I'm up early with pre-first day of school jitters. School starts tomorrow, and I'm still trying to figure out how to fit all my kids in my classroom. Almost everything else is ready, except I guess lesson plans, unit plans, my first day speech, etc., etc. Feels like I'm behind the 8-ball a little bit already. But, we'll see how it goes.

"Winging it" is not cool this year. I should know better by now. But the first week's pretty standard -- discuss the rules and procedures, let them know you are in charge and you're not going to put up with disrespect, explain the goals of the class, pre-testing. I'm teaching English 3 read-write again this year, which is a very low-level class, but it allows me to get to know the students and to help them in a practical way with skills they need to survive. I've really got to hunker down and get them motivated somehow. English 2 should be fun -- I enjoyed my sophomores last year, although their writing was really bad. Then Forensics, which takes up an enormous amount of time but is very rewarding.

I'm looking forward to the year, but I've got to get motivated myself this morning.

Hope you're all doing well. Fall really feels like an exciting change of season this year.
