As baseball / college football

The Oakland A's are poised to make the playoffs, which makes me happy. I like watching baseball on TV, even though it sometimes puts me to sleep on those lazy summer afternoons I used to get. It's a game with a different rhythm from a different era, no clock to "manage," etc. ESPN's coverage of the A's has been ridiculously low, perhaps because they play many games on the West Coast after the news cycle is over. But I hope some other people will discover A's baseball through the playoffs and Athletics Nation, linked to on the right. The discussion is sometimes very funny on AN, so it's a fun way to be a fan, even if I can't see the games.

College football can also be fun to watch, except for the ridiculous amount of time devoted to commercials and hype, which is a problem for all football games. I rooted for Notre Dame this year and was dismayed that Michigan destroyed them last week. The thing about college is one loss and your season's over. Interesting drama. I like college cause it's on Saturday instead of Sunday, although I've also watched some Sunday night football and may again this week. We'll have to see. I don't know who to root for now that Notre Dame is out of it. Not USC, for sure (Sorry, Jeff). Maybe a true underdog? I don't even know who that would be. Enough for now.
