Book Excerpt Review: Assault on Reason by Al Gore

Follow this link to read an excerpt of Al Gore's Assault on Reason.

Al Gore argues that reason itself is dwindling as a part of the national political debate, due largely to television and the opinion-driving advertisements that have come to dominate many campaigns. I am not sure that Gore is 100% on target. Who's to say which side of any given debate is more based on reason than another? Still, I found his argument about how much time and energy is spent raising funds for television commercials compelling. He has an insider's view of politics and how it works these days, and his stories and experience add up to a good critique of the system. It's an interesting read. I hope it has an impact on the debate and on citizens' understanding of our role as part of the political process.
