An analysis of the 2 logos from George W. Bush's campaign in 2004 and John McCain's campaign in 2008 indicates some similarities between the two campaigns. Here are the logos:
McCain is simple and stark, no flag colors, but black and white. Unlike Obama's logo (see below), both logos leave very little room for doubt -- both logos announce the candidate's name(s) in big, bold fonts. McCain's logo mirrors some of the military logos I've seen lately -- black, subdued tones -- with a star reminding voters of a military general's uniform and the flag as well. This is a "commander in chief's logo" if I've ever seen one. Still, Obama's image of "sunrise in America" with a white-hot sun contrasts starkly with McCain's night-time imagery. Black and white also indicates a clear moral universe, unlike Obama's multicolored fields.
Bush and McCain may be different people, but they may be closer than people think, based on these logos.
