Natural Disasters: China, Myanmar
It's been an impacting news day on NPR. First, I heard about the earthquake in China in the morning news briefing. Then, at lunch, I heard Romesh Ratnesar -- someone I know from school -- talking about Myanmar and the difficulty in getting aid to the people there. He was advocating "invading" Myanmar through a U.N.-led, unilateral military action that would be humanitarian in purpose. Here's a link to his piece. Also, in the evening broadcast of "All Things Considered," there was a first-hand account of the earthquake in China. A school was devastated in the earthquake, and one of the anchors (Melissa Block) was there in China reporting on other things, but kept her microphone recording as it hit. You could hear the emotion in her voice as she described the devastation. Here are some links to NPR's China and Myanmar coverage.
