Summer Movies (so far)

Since seeing Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I have seen the following films in order:

Get Smart -- a slapstick movie with talented actors doing mostly predictable stuff. I don't like the Rock much, but he was appropriately cast in this movie.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (again). Still fun the second time around. The "nuke the fridge" thing still didn't bother me -- it was a clear indication that we're in fantasy land, as if we haven't been the whole time.

Kung Fu Panda -- a fun, light movie with some slapstick laughs and a plot with only a few surprises. Apparently, it's kicking off some nationalistic anxiety in China.

Wall-E -- a fun, light movie with a little more meat to it (an environmental message). I loved the use of an old movie musical and the time and effort spent on developing Wall-E as a character, right through to the final credits (yes, I stayed to watch most of the credits). It was well worth seeing.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (again). Not as fun the third time around -- you start to notice things like where the lights are in these caves.

For me, it's been a PG or G summer, and I've enjoyed the films. I'm venturing to go see The Dark Knight soon, I think.

Thanks to Jeff for inspiring this post.

I didn't mention that I saw Indiana Jones twice. I did start to feel wary toward the end of the second experience; still, I liked it a lot. I'm planning on seeing Wall-E with Akiko next month, provided it's still in theaters.

Hope you enjoy the Dark Knight. It really is a great movie, even if it is a dark one.
