Here are a collection of photos, mostly from the New York Times, but some from other sources, of the Olympics.
I find it interesting to read about two gold medalists -- one, from China, was "discovered" and trained by a coach who saw she had "good explosive strength"; the other, from Spain, a 30-year-old "maverick" who trained with the Basque team and started out wanting to ride motorbikes. There are certainly contrasts in the two winners' stories, but the contrasts aren't that simple. The two winners' stories show different layers of the sporting world, and different "routes to the top." I'm sure there's not a simple formula for success out there to be derived from these stories. Still, Olympic champion is hard to beat as the experience of a lifetime.
